12 articles, every month, only the best
Words Molly Flatt
We’re drowning in content. Every time we open our social feeds, we get deluged in opinion and clickbait. Every time we glance at our phone, we get sprayed with messages, updates and alerts. We haven’t caught up with our podcasts. Our ‘must-read’ articles are stacking up. Our time is so precious, but when we do get a moment to lift our heads from the to-do list and seek new inspiration or thought-provocation, it’s impossible to know where to start.
Well, we’re hoping that as of next month, you’ll always start with PHOENIX. Our monthly digital magazine has been going from strength to strength since we re-launched last February – but we’ve also decided to pause and take a breath. The amount of shoots, articles and interviews we’re producing has snowballed, and while we’re delighted that our readers and talent have driven us towards incredible growth, we’re also very mindful of PHOENIX’s stated mission:
We have enough stuff; we just want the stuff we have to be better made. We never have enough time; we want the time we do have to be spent in more original and rewarding ways.
That’s why we’ve decided to celebrate our success by – instead of pushing for yet more growth, as is the Silicon Valley way – scaling back, and curating such a tightly-edited collection of articles and inspiration for your month ahead that you’ll be able to swallow the whole beautiful package in a few easy bites.
That doesn’t mean we’re losing any of our bite, though. Quite the opposite. Our beloved columnists will now be the real stars of the show, so whether you’re a fan of Greg Taylor’s glittering film analysis, Oisin Lunny’s thoughts on the best emerging music, Sarah Shaffi’s exploration of the best books or Jordan Waller’s intimate riffs on creative life in London, you’ll get all the brain food you want. And as well as the words, we’ll still be offering our signature stunning imagery: two fashion shoots, one beauty shoot, and a scattering of trend roundups to help make your consumerism as conscious – and delightful – as possible.
Twelve pieces of content. Timely, opinionated, original and inspiring. Published free and online on the first of each month. This is what we think digital does best, and what we need.
Of course, for those longer moments of downtime, there’s always the hero product at the heart of PHOENIX: the print magazine. Stuffed with long-form features, interviews and photoshoots from the most exciting new talent, this bi-annual must-buy has been setting the agenda for award-winning, sustainable independent print publishing for eight years.
See you in September x
