January: its not a great month. Battling with those New Year resolutions, recovering from your festive over-indulgence, saving money after all that overspending on gifts, growing very bored of getting wet feet and perhaps even abstaining from your usual cheering G&T… No wonder most of us suffer from the dreaded blues. But this year, you should embrace them, because they’re right on trend.
Chloé SS14
Pastels are always a favourite for spring, but blue proved to be the real star of the SS14 runways. Colour aficionados Pantone named Dazzling Blue – a rich, muted royal -as spring’s hottest colour, and designers have been taking note.
To be precise, 25 collections sent models down the runway wearing blue during Fashion week. Designers like Chloé, ICB, Altuzarra, Fendi and Peter Som showcased the hue in fresh fabrics, snappy separates and punchy prints – whether in fresh periwinkle, deep navy or Dazzling Blue’s harsher cousin, cobalt.
ICB SS14
Blue can be tricky, but this sophisticated, not-too-dazzling-yet-not-too-beachy shade is rapidly making an appearance on everything from bold accessories and oversized tops to structured sandals. Plus, it works on all skin tones. Mix with the season’s other muted brights such as violet, freesia, tulip and cayenne, and you have a super-striking and spring-ready outfit.
