Photographer Cecilie Harris interviews top male model Jake Cooper for this special edition of Male Model Monday.
Name: Jake Cooper
Age: 20
Hometown: Newtown in Wales, but I live in London
Tell us three random facts about you…
- I used to count my footsteps in multiples of fives, and if I didn’t finish on the fifth step I’d have to take one extra step.
- I can’t stand the sound of people brushing their teeth.
- My first job was reading the weather on the radio in Wales when I was thirteen. Then I was late in one Christmas morning for the main show, and there was no radio for a couple of hours, which pretty much ended my radio career.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about music in a big way and very passionate about the arts. I’m in general very passionate about being creative and having creative input somehow. Music in general excites me because I like the scope and broadness of it. You can go to a foreign country where you don’t speak the same language, but then play a song to someone and connect over that. I love that side of music. I also love sounds and playing with sounds, that always excites me.
Can you recommend us three songs we should listen to?
- “Hey Mr. D.J.” by Zhane
- “Disciple” by Slayer
- “Cool Like That” by Digable Planets
What would you say is your best feature and why?
My thumbs. I’ve never lost a game of thumb war, cause they’re very bendy [which he proved to be true by a subsequently winning a game of thumb war].
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Smoking is definitely one of my guilty pleasures. And Chaka Kahn!
That’s like 80s music from when I was growing up!
Yeah, me and Callum jumped into Lovebox festival to see Chaka Khan. There is a big revival of 80’s disco music about. There is lots of that being regenerated, as house music is making it come back.
If you got to implement a new law in the UK, what would it be?
I’d have to sort out London travel somehow, as it’s so ridiculously expensive. Hence the skateboarding at the moment. So I’d have a whole shakeup of travelling.
What would your ideal holiday be right now?
I’d love to go back to Borneo. Beach. Hut. Surf boards. Good people. Good music. Just chill.
