A technicolour adventure to New York, Amsterdam and the mountains of Tyrol unfolded at luxury knitwear label John Smedley’s London Collection: Men’s showcase this week. Dubbed ‘The Journey’ and inspired by the well-thumbed pages of family photo albums dating back to the 1930s, the collection offers an international, contemporary twist on quality homespun knits. With over two centuries of heritage and a family-owned mill in Derbyshire, John Smedley balances its British identity with a global outlook, moving high quality yarns in fresh and innovative directions.
Taking its cue from ski, cycle and city breaks across the decades, the range marries optimum comfort with utilitarian functionality, punctuated by retro sports accents: slope-worthy roll-necks, contrasting geometric patterns, classic European polo shirts and baby-soft cashmere tracksuits. A unifying palette of plums, forest greens and reds keeps things richly autumnal. Accompanying the collection is a rainbow of block colour scarves, Ultimate Travel Sets featuring decadent loungewear and accessories, alongside bag and blanket duos spun from Merino Extra Fine Wool.
