Pink has always been a tricky colour; the Barbie-brained little girl connotations can be hard to shake. But this season designers reclaimed the shade. Accented with black – see PPQ – it suddenly looks so much fresher than monochrome. Combined with a clean, oversized structure – see Simon Rocha – it evokes a haughty Grace Kelly elegance. Out of the blue, pink has become the perfect way to convey a sense of unflappable cool – and it helps you stand out from the depressing sea of grey, black and navy on the tube.
Our favourite high street take is Hobbs’s watermelon cocoon, best worn with a pair of black leather skinnies, some monk-strap flats and a mysterious smile.
A rose has thorns too, you know.
