PHOENIX selects the best boyfriend jeans – no other halves needed

The counter-revolution has been brewing for years; wide leg came and went, as did bootcut jeans and straight leg. But this year there is a cut to rival the skinny’s reign – prepare for the year of the boyfriend jean.

Ok, so we admit that this style isn’t totally ‘new’, but it’s safe to say that with summer fast approaching these babies are here to stay. For 2014 the boyfriend jean is best bleached blue and highlighted by grungy accents: torn, frayed, grazed and even threadbare – and although PHOENIX loves thrifty fashion, we wouldn’t recommend that you DIY, as there is a fine line between ‘distressed’ and ‘flashing your pants at passers by’. Don’t say that we didn’t warn you.

The key to dressing the boyfriend jean is to keep the rest of your outfit chic and tailored – unless you’re heading off to a summer festival, then go crazy for jersey tees). For smart Sunday lunch styling try pairing a darker wash boyfriend jean with a crisp white shirt and chunky gold chain, or for your weekend shopping trip throw on a classic blazer over a breton top a la Whitney Port.

We’ve searched high and low and found 5 of our favourite boyfriend jean styles for your delight and delectation – happy shopping…
