Its official – 2014’s beauty palettes belong to purple

Rochas

Pantone has announced the winning hue of 2014’s Colour of the Year award, and its good news for the beauty world. According to the pigment powerhouse, this year’s star hue is Radiant Orchid – a brilliant pastel lilac. Taking over from 2013’s jewel-toned Emerald, this peculiar hue has already been spotted on the AW13 runways, with Rochas and Prabal Gurung using the strangely off-purple to adorn lips and eyes. The shade has proved as versatile as it is unusual: at Rochas it took on a gloomy, ethereal effect when smoked softly around the eye socket, whilst at Prabal Gurung the idea was pure summer- a striking, matte slick of orchid over the lips, teamed with a bare, glowing face. So is it pink, or purple? The jury is still out. But we do know that it looks amazingly fresh when combined with a subtle pre-summer tan. Can’t wait till it hits the beauty shelf bigtime? Here’s our edit of the best beauty buys to help you get the look now…don’t wear them all at once!
