Penhaligon’s latest collaboration is no surprise – but it is an olfactory game changer Tralala in box It was a collaboration waiting to happen. For nine seasons to-date, Penhaligons have scented the scene for Meadham Kirchhoff’s Fashion Week show, and now the boys have joined forces with the fine perfumers to create their own signature scent. Tralala is the forthcoming collaborative fragrance, it is whole-heartedly odd, enthralling, and strangely addictive. The olfactory equivalent of the duos’ all-out, majestic collections, the scent is as strange as it is divine: described by the boys as “opulent and hedonistic”, and we couldn’t agree more. Heady notes of whisky, saffron and violet leaf smack you in the face at first spray, soon followed by a heart of leather and incense, and ending on a deep base of patchouli, vetiver and the slightest hint of vanilla. Admittedly, it’s a love-it-or-hate it kind of situation, but we gather the feeling that the boys have never been ones for fail-safe mass appeal. This is certainly not a fragrance for sombre Monday mornings, but one made for decadent, after-dark encounters. Did you really expect anything else? Tralala launches exclusively at Harvey Nichols on April 21st, and at Penhaligon’s stores from May 5th.   Words: Roberta Lister
