Biotin supplements and pre-shampoo Elasticizer treatments are your friends this summer

Words Anabel Kingsley
There’s not a lot that Anabel Kingsley – hair care supremo and daughter of leading Trichologist Philip Kingsley – doesn’t know about the human barnet. From the best dietary advice for improving the strength and shine of your tresses, to the reasons why more women (and men) are suffering from hair loss, her wealth of knowledge has made her a go-to expert for hair hack seeking A-listers. Here she shares her 5 ultimate tips for strong and healthy beach hair. Grab your swim cap, pack your aftersun mask for that quintessentially British scalp burn, and dive right in.
1. Protect your hair when you swim. Salt and chlorinated water can seriously dry out strands, leaving them brittle and prone to breakage. Pool water can also turn blonde hair green! To protect my hair, I use our water-resistant hydrating Swimcap Cream, which was originally formulated for the US Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team.
2. Take advantage of seasonal fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood in summer. Hair benefits immensely from a healthy diet rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals. To help your body metabolize nutrients in the foods you eat, take a Biotin Supplement. I recommend our Biotin Boost, which also contains hair essential Zinc and Vitamin B12.
Protect your scalp from UV rays. Like any skin, your scalp can burn. Apply your regular sunblock to your parting or wear a hat. Once weekly, use an After-Sun scalp mask to keep your scalp soothed, hydrated and moisturized. I love our After-Sun Scalp Mask, formulated with Aloe Vera.
4. Shield your hair from UV rays with a daily sun protective spray. UV rays act on the hair much like bleach, and can leave strands similarly dry and damaged. Look for products containing moisturizing agents and free-radical scavengers, such as PK Sun Shield.
5. To keep your hair strong and resilient throughout the summer, use a weekly pre-shampoo conditioning treatment. I apply our Elasticizer at least once a week. Pre-shampoo treatments are great to multi-task with. I recommend gently working one into damp hair before you work-out or just before going to bed.
