The Marina and the Diamonds ‘Electra Heart’ album is filled with amazing pop hooks, oozes melodrama, and showcases gritty and honest lyrics , instantly becoming one of our favourite records of 2012. It’s an album campaign that has been very boldly influenced in image and style by figures like Marilyn Monroe and themes of identity, love, and the Americana. All concepts she touched on with her first LP ‘The Family Jewels’, but not nearly as hard hitting or with the same sass and personality as displayed here.
After a number one début in the charts and stellar reviews, it seems the album is set for a re-release sometime later this year. The new song ‘How To Be A Heartbreaker’, due for release 15th September, is the album’s third promotional single – a witty, girly, empowering, and fun how-to guide on how to protect your heart from bad, bad men. Guitars drive the song and lead up to a big pop chorus letting Marina guide you step-by-step with her husky voice on how to fend off users, and use them instead. No harm intended.
Remember girls, don’t wear your heart on your sleeve, wear it on your cheek.
